PGA Professional Golfer Peter Jacobsen Has Three Successful Back Procedures at Laser Spine Institute in Tampa, FL
Search for homes in the Tampa MLS
(PRWEB) May 24, 2007 -- Due to hip complications, Peter Jacobsen, PGA TOUR golf professional, developed back problems that progressively worsened over a 4-5 year period. After his hip replacement in September 2006, Jacobsen's hip surgeon informed him that he would soon have to address his back pain.
On February 27, Jacobsen received his first procedure, a Facet Thermal Ablation at Laser Spine Institute. In this procedure, the surgeon arthroscopically entered the facet joint to "clean it out," using a small working tube only five millimeters in diameter. In addition, the nerve that surrounds the facet joint, which has no motor function, was deadened with the laser, eliminating painful symptoms.
In March, Jacobsen received the 2nd and 3rd procedures, which were contributing factors to his spinal stenosis (narrowing in the spinal canal). This narrowing impinges the nerves surrounding the spinal cord, often causing pain, numbness, tingling and weakening of the muscles. Once again, the surgeon entered the low back through a small tube, and used a laser and other small surgical instruments to release the nerve, in turn, releasing the pain.
In reference to his experience at Laser Spine Institute, Peter Jacobsen states to a future patient, "I had that crippling sciatic pain down the back of both legs for about 3-4 years. I had some problems that caused pain and stiffness in my back [which was taken care of at LSI through a procedure on my facet joints and moderate spinal stenosis which was causing the sciatic pain. You'll notice that I said was because I had surgery for the spinal stenosis - first the left, then the right one week later. I was feeling about 90% relief from the left side right away, and about 95% relief after about one week. After the second surgery, I felt about 95% relief from my right side in one day."
Jacobsen continues, "I did this [surgery at Laser Spine Institute for two reasons . . . my golf career and my quality of life. I simply couldn't play golf to the level that I wanted with the pain that I had been experiencing. As for the quality of life, my wife and I are soon going to become grandparents and I want to be able to take my grandchild (and hopefully more grandchildren!) for a walk on the beach, to be able to teach them to swing a club and simply to be active as I grow older."
"I had faith in the doctors, the staff and the facility before I went in for my first procedure and now, after having had three total surgeries, I have absolute and complete belief and trust in LSI," concludes Jacobsen. "Each and every employee, from the rehabilitation staff to the O.R. staff to the doctors is dedicated, thorough, compassionate and extremely professional."
Back and neck surgeries at Laser Spine Institute are all minimally invasive and arthroscopic, with no general anesthesia or hospital stay. LSI has mainstreamed their outpatient procedure into a "5-Day Process." Patients are receiving everything from preoperative clinic appointments to postoperative physical therapy, and starting their new lives, free from debilitating pain, in less than a week. Peter Jacobsen is just one of the 250 patients that receive a life changing procedure at LSI every month.
Being one of the only facilities whose surgeons can perform these types of procedures, LSI is treating patients from all over the world. For more information about "How to Get Your Life Back in 5 Days," please call (866) DOCS-LSI to speak to a New Patient Advocate or visit www.laserspineinstitute.com.
